The months have flown by since our last update in May! Since then we have been spending a lot longer than expected porting all of our assets over from Softimage to Maya, plus our team has been re-training in Maya. This has all gone very well, if not a little painstaking!

We are also currently modelling and texturing the last environment, granny’s kitchen, and will have some progress updates and visuals in the new year.

It is rare for an animation production to go from concept to completion without some sort of problem or obstacle to overcome – and The Fearsome Beastie is no exception.

Last year, as we started to embark on the actual animation, we became aware that the software being used to create and animate The Fearsome Beastie was being discontinued. Autodesk Softimage’s final version was released in April 2014 prompting Autodesk to make the following statement:

Yesterday saw Alison Steadman come to the recording studios in Farnham to record the narrator for the Fearsome Beastie. Alison was so amazing, we even cast her as the Grandmother character, on the spot!

It’s slightly unusual to make the decision about who will be scoring a film at such an early stage in the pre-production process, but we knew straight away who we wanted to work with on the Fearsome Beastie.

We first worked with Verbal Vigilante several years ago on ‘Death by Scrabble‘ and ‘Hide and Seek’, and since then they have created the scores for every large Hollywood Studio you can name, for trailers including The Lone Ranger, The Dark Knight and Thor. They’ve also created music for TV shows such as America’s Got Talent, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and F1 Sports.
